Chess sets can come in many patterns and varieties. A Long Time ago I used to like to view the chess sets that are visible in a department store in Center City, Philly. The chess sets were works of art and were retained under a counter behind a glass. Every chess set shown there had a different idea. Nearly all sets were rather pricey. The chessmen were constructed of many different materials, and did not resemble the chess pieces I possessed in my personal cheap plastic chess set.

Sometimes it appeared as if you would have experienced difficulty actually playing chess with a themed chess set, since it is hard to determine which pieces were which after you began to propel them around the table. I was never sure if the people who can afford to buy these chess sets would actually have used them to play the game. However the various pieces and fashions of chessboards were often gorgeous, and I would have loved to have been able to afford to buy one of them.

One of the greatest chess sets that I have ever discovered was created by an artist that my elder brother lived with. It possessed a lovely wooden board and the pieces were of moulded pewter. This was such a neat set not entirely for the art but also for the theme of the chess set, which was like a scene from the Lord of the Rings picture, consummate with wizards, dragons, dwarfs, elves and medieval looking castles.

One set of chess pieces were electro copper plated, while the opposing chessmen were the colouring of the pewter. I never got to play on it, but I did experience the delight of placing it up at the art exhibits where my brother would attempt to sell their bosses work.

My do it yourself weekend

Did you spend your last weekend consuming movies, DVDs, CDs, books, etc, too? Have you thought how rewarding getting creative yourself can be?

I want to show you three different ways to get creative! I will cover three different fields, so there will be something for everyone. The three different fields are reading, knitting and making a photo calendar.

My first idea for getting creative is making a special bookmark: a funny bookworm bookmark. I found this on a german website on bookmarks called lesezeichenladen.de. You can find the instructions in the section Bücherwurm basteln. Have Fun!

The second idea, although I must admit that most probably this will appeal more to women, is to knit a nice looking cap for the colder season. I personally own one of those (to be honest, it was a present, but it was made using these instructions…)
